welcome to held
furling + travelling inwards to find ease
welcome friends to held, delighted you made it.
held is the space + community where practices, sessions and conversation will live, centred around yoga + movement, and introspection + feeling. blending embodied practice with therapeutic self-exploration, we will dive into different themes, ideas and respond to the world around us.
furling came from the idea of responding to the seasons. in the wise words of Katherine May who wrote Wintering, “winter is not the death of the life cycle, but its crucible”.
combining curiosity of thought and movement, we’ll start our first practice together in late October, from the comfort of our own home and trusted spaces. read on to find out more about it and how to sign up.
what should I expect from our furling practice?
we will meet at 7pm on Friday 25th October in a digital space together (or more colloquially known as zoom).
we will spend 1.5 hours together, moving through a guided meditation, yin-inspired and easy vinyasa flow and woven throughout, reflective journalling practice.
every movement will be designed for any body and options will be served throughout so you can decide what to explore, what to stay with and what to dip your toe into.
introspection, reflection and observation will be core pillars during our time together, foundational in preparing for a darker season ahead. some of this will come easily, some will feel sticky and so you’ll be guided and supported to explore these sections in ways that feel safe and held.
do I need a mat and props?
if you don’t have a mat, no worries, you could use a big blanket on the floor. you might like to have a spare blanket handy for slower parts of the practice or restful poses.
if you don’t have a bolster, no bother, you could use a few pillows to create the same effect.
if you don’t have blocks, you could use a few hardback books to give you the same support. you can be as creative as works for you ~ normal day to day objects can be our props.
do I need to be ‘good’ at yoga?
oh I do feel this question deeply. you don’t need to have practiced yoga before, and equally you can be a seasoned yogi to experience this practice together. everything we do is an invitation with no expectation of an rsvp. you do you. showing up to do something centred on you, is all that is required.
how much will it cost?
the practice will be on a sliding scale of £5-10 and you can make the choice of where you sit on the scale. no questions, simply choose your spot and you’ll pay that.
how do I get access to the class?
you can pay directly using this link and please add your name as a reference. you will receive a confirmation email a few days afterwards, and a week before our practice, you will receive your link to the evening’s session.
any questions or things you want to explore, can be added to this post so the wider group can benefit from the answer, or privately if that feels helpful.
you have been added to this held newsletter because you wanted to find out more about our furling practice in October. if you want to continue to hear more from this community, then please subscribe.
free newsletters will be shared monthly with resources, prompts and updates about what is coming up in our community.
a paid newsletter will include movement practice and introspective reflection practice for you to do from the comfort of your own home. the first will be arriving in early October and you will receive this a few times a month, alongside the free monthly newsletter.
